I'm in love with P-line CXX again
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:56:31 PM »
I put on some 6# test on a spinning reel and took it for a test.

I uprooted a 20 pound tree branch and 4 other smaller ones.....I have to say,I'm IMPRESSED.

I had absolutely no problems with manageability either....which was my main concern.

LOL,  Wait till you use 15lb+.

I use to use CXX all the time when I wasnt hooked on flouro.  CXX was one of my favorites and I still use it time to time.  Great line for sure.

I have 17# test on my Revo STX right now. I'm using that one for flipping and short distant pitching around some nasty stuff.

I'll admit though,I sprayed the heck out of it with KVD line conditioner. That helps A LOT!

dont get that hung up.  Otherwise you will pull the plug out of the bottom of the lake.   ;D ;D  I was fishing 20 once and I had to cut it because I kept pulling the boat instead of breaking the line.

I've never had to use anything over 12#.  I have some 15# but it's just too wiry for me.

YoZuri Hybrid is pretty stout as well.  I'm using 12# for spinnerbaits and cranks.  It's a little smaller diameter than the PLine.

Yu Zuri is hard to beat, I use it for just about everything.

i can never undertand people not using anything heavier than 12 or 14lb test line

Lots of clearer water outside of our area cutbait. Much like Smith Lake in alot of lakes. You can use bigger line but you most likely will get more bites with smaller line ...like Holt in the clear water monthes ;D, you have to use smaller line or not get bit as much.

Like buzzbait stated "clearer water". It does make a difference.

Grim,

How is its managability at 6#? I love cxx in 12-15# on my casting reels when I battle chum salmon, but its stiffness and wiryness which I don't mind for my casting reels is something I would shudder using if 6# follows suit.

Let me know.  I'll take your word for it and get some. Thanks.

I'm having no problems with it on my Daiwa fuego 2000. However i did use KVD line conditioner on it.

Thanks. I'll see if they have it in 6# in my area.

i still dont see how it matters as much with a fast moving bait such as a spinner bait or topwater we fish some crystal clear lakes around here adn i havent noticed a major difference

I'm sure it doesnt.  I dont think they are talking about using 6# on spinnerbaits or topwater.  I figure they are referring more to finesse fishing.

cutbait...It doesn't matter too much on reaction baits. You have that part right for the most part. When fishing finesse baits like shakey heads or drop shot it can really matter.Last year i couldn't get a bite on anything until i used 4# test.....Fish were really caution on biting too.

This is another reason i dislike red canjun line.....I don't fish deep enough water for the line to "disappear".It really has no purpose for me.

Generally light line stays on my spinning rigs.My baitcasters are spooled with 14# test or higher. for heavier moving baits.

I'm a finesse kinda guy so light line is a must to me.

im saying 12 lb test on spinner baits seems light to me i guess its just the way i fish everything but my crankbait rods have 17pound test flouro or 65lb pound braid i do have 15lb flouro on my worm rod i guess i like to flip and pitch adn fish heavy cover no matter where im fishing

Reason for that is it will get down deeper faster. I know guys who use 8#-10# test for crankbaits for that very reason.

If you are fishing heavy cover...light line may not work in this situation.

Fish clear open water sand bars and you'll quickly realize why light line will excel.I fish for smallmouth bass in shallow open waters....using too heavy of a line you'll quickly realize the disadvantages.

I'm the same way cut, I use 15# on most of my stuff.   I started using 12# some and have been getting some break offs so I am for sure scared to go any lighter.

Now on drop shots I do use some 8# and 10#.

12 # cxx seems stronger to me than most other brands 15lb.  i use mostly 12lb for everything except pitching i use 65# braid, and dropshot/shakey head where i may go as low as 4#, but never higher than 8#. at the lake in july, i will likely be using 4# or 6# most of the day

i just don't see the need to have super heavy line on every rig....we ain't fishin' for sharks here  ::2

either way, in hot, clear water, the lighter line will usually get you bit more; sometimes, a lot more.

i was jus playing i understand thats the way alot of people like to fish but for me ive always done better trying to get 5 big bites all day in a tournament fishing thick  heavy cover than trying to catch 40 and maybe have a couple of good ones  fishign alot of little finesse baits

you have to admit that there is something very sporting about landing a really good fish on very light line. a 3-4# spot on 4-8# test on a whippy stick is a heck'uva a good fight!
