Ok guys I plan to do a lot of jig fishing placed a order with Gman and they look awesome.

Here is my question how important if a jig rattle.

Just had another thought how many jig colors do you guys have and how many do you use. I am starting out with 18, about 6- different colors.

Gmans jigs Joe's trailers just need to know about jig rattles.

I like rattles when I am fishing in muddy water or at night.

I very rarely use a rattle.  About the only time I do is Muddy water or night.  Even then I do not always use one.

I use  to use them all the time, I haven't in the past two years, and I have caught more fish then  ever, not sure if it's because of no rattle, or just my skill level has gone up.

I have never used a rattle and don't see any need to use one.  I prefer to try different types of trailers instead.

As for colors I have way more than the law allows but mostly if I can't catch them on brown or black then I'll get them on a tube or brush hog.

The jigs that I use don't have rattles.  I do have some with rattles, but they usually stay in the box as back ups.

Most of my waters are clear,..so I very rarely use a rattle.  In that kind of visibility, I think a rattle hurts more than it helps!
I do carry some snap-on rattles just in case I encounter very muddy conditions on the river or something,..but even then, I'd definitely start off by fishing without one!

As for colors,..+90% of the time I fish a plain black jig with trailers to match!  Sometimes I use a trailer with just a touch of blue (if you look at it fast, you'd still think it was black),....
I carry some greenish and some brownish jigs as well,..but the first choice for me is always black! 8)
If you're a fisherman, ya gotta fish!

I use to think that rattles were a must in my muddy water conditions. Over the past couple of years I have found that they really didn’t matter. Black/Blue seems to be the key for dark water.
G-man made some jigs for me that are black/blue with a few strands of chartreuse thrown in. When things settle down here (dealing with insurance claims) I will post some pic’s.

Scott,

How do you think a Blk/Red color skirt would do in our waters?   I'm basing that on the somewhat success I've had with the Red Shad Tiki Sticks and red spinner baits I've used in the Spring.

Well I have had some moderate success with the 10” Red Shad worms; I also tried Blue, Black, and Grape of the same length and they didn’t do as well. I have tried different colors of jigs and soft plastics over the years but the Black/Blue always seems to do best. Remember also that we are fishing the Tiki Stiks and spinner baits higher up in the water column.
The new jigs I got from G my be some real crowd pleasers. The chartreuse offers just a touch of contrast without being overbearing. (Dang! This is starting to sound like something my wife would say.  ::) )
I’ll try to post some pic’s this weekend.

You know I used to use a rattle quite a bit as well, but I havent used them nearly as much in the past couple of years.  I do try to use them in really muddy water though, but even then I dont know if it makes that much of a difference, bass have such good eye sight.  I especially do not use them on my swim jigs as they negatively affect the action.

My experience with rattles has been, like somebody above mentioned, I do much better without them.  I've got some old Denny Brauer Rattlebacks that I've never caught a fish on.  Those suckers are loud, or they feel loud to me anyway.

Dark colors ALWAYS work for me with exception of post front conditions when I will lighten up on color a bit. Can't go wrong with dark colors though.
