Jigs on the fly
« on: April 26, 2009, 04:12:58 PM »
Gman and I have been discussing how many jigs we are carrying.  He said he might start making them in his boat.  That got me to thinking about camping and fishing for a few weeks at a time and all of the makin's I carry along.

So I decided to invest in a couple of tools so that I could pack a medium sized tackle bag and even make some in the boat if needed, but definitely be prepared to make them in camp with a lot less mess and bother.

Here is what I have come up with so far.

I don't use a lot of different skirt colors so I just have one box with 6 compartments used for skirts and the rest carry my heads sorted according to weight.  I've always done it like that. Just have to choose weight and skirt color and put them together.  Run low on something and I just restock them for next trip.  I haven't bought a "assembled" jig in probably 15+ yrs now.

Obviously you guys are going a step further with skirt making materials on hand....I like it!!

Jeff,  When Jigman and I were talking about it I pictured more your way of doing it.  Jigman has taken it 1 step farther and I think I like it a little more.  I need to go and buy another 3700 and see if I can figure out a way to do this.  I need to reduce my jig boxes and get them into 1 box.  Somehow.  Same problem Jigman had.

The thing I was thinking is all heads that are same weight can be stuck together.
Skirts in similiar color can be stuck together.

So in theory I can fit 2x as many in one box.  I only throw 3-4 colors of jigs.  More work do do.

You have a picture Jeff H?

I used to only throw 3 colors of craw jigs but go to reading about swimming that type of jig and YOU told me about fishingskirts.com.  Now I can do at least 96 combinations.  On the maybe good side some of my friends has seen my stash and have had me make them some to offset my expenditures.

yup!  I told you so Jigman ;D

I probably have 50 different colors here and the combinations well endless I guess.

I need to work on some swim jigs.

Actually you have 1275 combinations if you only use 2 colors.  Now if you are doing 3 or more than that gets into some higher math.
