Cut, I have to say that I am nothing but impressed with my Vendetta's. For $90 or whatever they are now, my opinion is they are hard to beat.

Tons of great options for that price.  The last 2 rods I've bought were an abu garcia veritas and a kistler carbon steel. I've been happy with both of those for what I use them for.  Simmons usually has kistler rods at a good price.

In that case castaway makes a good crankbait rod and you can buy them at academy. You are right about those reels. I have that model and it's a great reel.

Have you looked at the website for Acadia rods? You might like something there.
