My Bag is Shrinking!
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:27:04 PM »
Yep, I guess that this happens as you get older; my tackle bag just won’t hold what I think it should!
As a matter of fact I could hardly carry the dang thing anymore. Years ago my dear wife bought me a tackle bag from Wally World and while it has held up well the plastic boxes fasteners have about had it.  I am in the process of replacing them with Plano 2-3700 utility boxes. While I’m at it I am also sorting. That has to be the toughest thing in the world; deciding what to keep. My Grandson has become a “tackle junkie” so I am going to load him up.  ;D

I prefer a small bag...having a bigger bag just adds confusion to what to throw. Not to mention launching that thing around all day.

I have a small gander mountain bag and a worm binder.

The bag holds 4 small 3600 plano boxes, front has pocket for pliers, scissors and lure retriever. Also has 2 small side pockets for my cb hawg sauce and my bobbers or other little misc. items. This works very well for shore fishing. Not such a big hassle to carry all of it.

My big walmart one stays home.

I can't wait for my kid to get a little bigger. He's already got a pretty good collection!
Magic lures don't exist.

Hey Pondhopper! I thought you just "lightened up" your tackle bag. One way to do that is TO QUIT BUYING STUFF!  ;D
But what fun is that?

I love it, love it, love it, I want some more of it!
They ought to write a song like that.
I donned jacket and cap for a trip searching for some braid that I knew I had somewhere. In the process of finding that I found a ton of stuff that I have bought over the past couple of years. Next time I think I “need” something all the further I have to go is the garage!

I cleaned out the tackle box I walk around the bank with.  I removed everything that I never used, and kept everything that I knew I would throw.  I ended up with jigs, trailers, flukes, brush hogs, and spinners.  The box is a lot lighter now and doesn't bulge out when I close it.

Well, I know some who know me for long are going to find it hard to believe but my tackle bag is also shrinking  :o.

There used to be a time when I carried bags and bags and bags of soft plastics, after years of doing so one day I came to think about it in detail, how many worms I may need in a trip ? the most I´ve spent were 5 worms ... that mean that the remaining 15 only took a ride so no need to carry them 15 plus the remaining bags and bags and bags which only add up in weight and bulk.

The first thing I did was to organize the soft plastics and reduce the size of the t-box, 5 worms in each color I fish the most and that´s it ! now I only carry a 3700 box for the soft plastics.

Same baits always work if you fish the same place over and over again, no need to carry 100 spinnerbaits, purchased a small spinnerbait box holding only 6 spinnerbaits, the ones I always catch fish with.

Same thing happened to cranks, now I only carry another 3700 with cranks + some swimbaits I fish the most.

What I´m going to do with the rest of my stuff ? nothing, I am a tackle junkie and I won´t give away my collection. Heck, it took me years of purchasing stuff to reach to that level and hundreds & hundreds of dollars spent in stuff I don´t use but that I like to own.

My bag weighs about 40 or 50lbs but I still can't make myself take anything out. I always say "I might need that" and I don't even use a 1/16 of my tackle. I always go back to the same thing.

I bought that huge tacklebag from Cabela's several years ago that holds 12 large boxes in it. I had them all full plus the pockets were all stuffed. I don't know how much it weighed but it was crazy. I am the same way though, I keep thinking I can't take "this or that" out because I might need it. I have since down-sized but still cram as much as I can into my bag and now my boat too. ::) >:D

My Grandson had his mother stop by yesterday afternoon so I “hooked him up”. I gave him a 7’ St. Croix glass rod (heavy) that I got for $20 and spooled with Stren 50lb. braid, a reconditioned Quantum reel that #1backlasher gave to him, several baits, including the jigs that G made for “us”, and storage boxes.
Cost of baits; $100
Cost of equipment; $30
The look on his face; Priceless!
I told the boy that he had to learn how to flip with this rod and showed him how to do it. It was 36* outside and he never came back in the house! That’s dedication.
I now have my tackle bag trimmed down to around 30lbs. Maybe my boat will set a bit more level?  ???
PS Please don’t tell my wife how much other stuff I still have stored!  :pray

Mine isn't shrinking, it's multiplying...   :o  I keep ending up with more full bags & boxes when I don't mean to...  It doesn't help that I found a guy in Japan who's selling me Viper worms on evilbay really cheap and shipping them fast....... 8)
