I use them in low light periods and after 3-4 days of stable weather.  Usually I burn them over the tops of weedy humps or along inside weedline on sand/gravel flats.  They are great for covering water, as a search lure and for losing fish (I lose more fish on these things than any other lure).

Do you change the hooks?  I always change the hooks to Mustad triple grips or gamis that have the bend in points.  Most of the traps have crappy hooks. :o

Well, conditions once again changed on us at tournament time ;D. Only caught one small fish on the traps this go around. Maybe next time.

Jeff H, I lose a few on them too. I think it has something to do with how hard they hit them(in progress). I really believe that most of the time the holes are a little bigger because of that and that allows them to throw the hook more often(lip hooked). LOL, If course I can't testify to that because I've never boated one that came off. ;D But it does make sense to me. I have recently bought a few lipless baits and they already had the triple-grip hooks on them and have only lost one of the ones I've caught lately

Later!

Jeff H,..try the triplegrip hooks that Gman suggested,..they will dramatically increase the amount of bass that you get into the boat! ;)

I changed the hooks on my Bill Lewis traps and my older rattlin' raps to VMC conecut round bends or Gamakatsu's.  My newer rattlin' raps still have the stock hooks on them.

I've always been surprised any fish can hit treble hooked lures and not get hooked at all.  I have had them knock these things into the next county and not get hooked.  Weird.

Thats real weird.  I rarely miss fish on them because of all the hooks.   I've always joked that if I fell from an airplane and could have one thing besides a parachute it would be a rattle trap because I'd hook something on the way down.

Well, here's another weird one....When I switched to a Crucial M/XF my catch rate went up on these baits.  My old trap rod was a floppy Convergence.  You'd think a stiffer rod would be a no no with these baits but it works better for me. ???

I use a stiffer rod for traps too because of that reason.  I noticed when I was fishing up at st clair I would lose alot of fish on real long casts because of a limp rod.  I use a PR844  or a m/h7' too.

I agree,..I can never even get one out of my tackle box without getting caught myself on one of the hooks! ;D
