Rigging a shaky
« on: June 11, 2009, 07:10:28 AM »
I have never seen a video or heard a description of shaky rigged like we do it around here.  I'd like to see some pics of how you guys rig yours to see just how weird we are here in SWMO.

I dont have a picture right now but....

I bite off the end of the worm so that it is flat, screw it on the screw keeper of the jighead, then I skin hook the point of the hook after running through the worm.

I use the same method as Buzzbait but I don't insert the hook in the top as far. I guess I just put the tip of the hook in and pull it right back out. I want the worm as staight as possible.

Before I post the pic, I'll tell you the story behind this rigging.

A friend of mine was the first one in this area to fish shaky.  I guess he hadn't looked up the "official" way to rig one.  He became good with it and started kicking some serious butt in tournaments.

As his skills grew the shaky put more money in his pocket.  Over the last 2 years, it has accounted for close to $50,000 for him and his partner.  Needless to say his method has caught on and I don't know any locals who rig it any other way, though many vary the style of jig head and which worm they use.  The big thing is he hump in the worm and the tip sticking out.

It has given me most of my good fish since the jerk bait bite went north.  I like it on the poison tail head with the wide gap hook.

Here is the rig and a couple of 4s that liked it very much.

cool deal Jigman.  NIce fish.

PS,  you know you can modify a pin insert for the small hitchhikers and mold in a spring into that poisen head. 8)

No I didn't know that.  You should show me a pic as I am LD.  Would the screw take the hump out?  If so, I couldn't fish it locally. ;D

Very interesting, almost looks like a catepillar crawling. I think you could get the hump with the screw head but I think it would then make the hook go back through the worm and block the hookset, if I have one of each laying around in the garage I will see what it looks like.
