roundball jig mold
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:49:13 AM »
Does anyone here use this style of roundball head and do you like it?

I need to find me a mold that makes small weight jig heads that will hold big hooks.  I'm going to start fishing grubs more.

with the bigger hooks(both size and length) would be a finesse jig wouldn't it? I use them. But as far as grub fishing, seems a 2/0 or a 3/0 would be plenty, but, I guess that would depend on the size of the grub. I was accustom to fishing smaller grubs on Lk. Martin here in Alabama and caught the stew out of spotted bass on them...but for the most part, with the small grubs, we used a darterhead jighead with them.

GMAN why don't you just use the 1/8 and 1/4 oz cavites in the posion tail mold.  I have been using it for a variety of applications; brush hogs, shaky worms, even in a few tubes once in a while.

I've been thinking about this all day.  The grubs would be 3-4"  maybe some fives.

I think I might go Jigmans route but I am going to grind a pin down to fit my mold and fill that cavity with lead so I dont have that hole.  It will save about 30-40 dollars in another mold to buy.

GMAN  I have really become a fan of the PT head.  I like the way it pulls through the water.  When I am swimming them and using regular grub trailers I find that it holds grubs pretty well but with a dab of J4F's superglue gel they would stay all day. ;D

I think you are being wise to not invest in a mold for one small application until you find whether or not you will be using it a lot.  I have a multi cavity mold like you were considering (only takes up to 1/0 hooks) in 1/4 oz and another in 1/8 and 1/16 that I bought for grubs and find that I only use them in the winter and then only for a few trips.
