Spooning

What are your favorite casting spoons and jigging spoons.  I'm looking to start spoon fishing more this year.

Few tips would be nice too.

I like the Hopkins shorty.

Bass don't eat what they don't see.

you did, is that the only type you use?  I'm wanting to learn this spoon fishing and start doing it more.  Especially this time of year.

Thanks guys,  I'm going to be fishing them casting or vertical.  Do you use the same spoon?   Few pointers?

I have 4 or 5 sizes of spoons from 1/8 to 2 oz.  All of them are jigging spoons.  They can be cast and fluttered through schools, even ripped across the top.

The ones I make are and sent you are 1/2 oz.

When I fish a spoon I normally do one or more of three things: 1.  drop straight down and fish it up or down ledges,  2. cast it out and yo yo it back in the water column or on the bottom, 3. pull up along side a big old tree and drop it to the bottom moving up a couple of feet at a time and doing a series of drops and falls.  I am always watching my line and keeping just a bit of tension on it so I don't miss a bite because most of the bites come on the fall.

I have gone more to the donothin' grub type fishing in the last few winters as it is much easier on my body and a lot cheaper to lose a bunch of them in brush than it is store bought spoons. ;)

I'll try it like that Jigman.  Thanks.  We will see how it works out here soon when it warms up.

That little do nothing rig you have must be the ticket.

It is working pretty well.  It has put over 350 fish in the boat in the last 7 outings.  We have caught many species even though we were targeting toothies and specs.  They are usually much deeper than those green, spotted and brown fish on Stockton though some of each are usually around.
