T rig weights
« on: June 20, 2008, 10:58:19 AM »
What all are you guys using these days.  Brass, lead, tungsten, ETC

I'm on my way of eliminating lead bullet weights.  Once I'm out of them I'm going to brass and tungsten.  I like the benifits of them better.  Plus they dont oxide and turn my box white.

Tungsten by far is my favorite.

I use tungsten. No lead weights allowed where I fish.

If tungsten wasn't so expensive I would be using it all the time.

But I normally use jig heads only so rarely do I t-rig anymore.

i use both...depending on what i can afford these days.Maybe if the gas prices go back down i'll start saving up on tungsten again.I can't afford to be losing those tungsten weights like i do.

Lately i've been just sticking with 1/8 lead bullet weights.

This may need to go under the HUMOR column ;D

May years ago, back when me and my dad would go fishing, mainly catfishing back then, we used old square nuts that we found in the garage. For several of those year thats what most everybody used, or something similar in nature. I've also heard of using old sparkplugs(ceramic removed) for old catfish weights(as well as plug knockers...bend the electrode into a loop off to the side and put over the line and slide it down the line...some people tied strings to the plug so if it fell off they could get it back and do it again)

I just dont see much reason why one couldn't use this same practice for c-rigging and or drop-shotting, other than the snagging ratio...but it seemed we didn't do to bad catfishing with them concerning hang-ups.

Buzzbaits money savin tip of the week ;D

I bet you could re-package them and market them as eccentric fishing weights and make double your money Buzz  ;D

I used to use nut bolts for my fishing as well. :o

I used 1/4"-1/2" nut bolts with a #4 or #6 hook about 12 to 16 inches up.Caught everything from catfish to breams/bluegills on that rig.Old school drop shot before it was known as a drop shot rig.Don't exactly remember how i learned it,but it was one day fishing next to an old guy who did this while i was using bobbers as a kid.

My dad never did figure out where all his nut bolts were going.... ;D

Talk about bringing back some good old memories!

They only make the tungsten ones in 3/16 & 1/4 ounce,...but in those sizes I swear by these Parasite weights now!
Parasite weights & clips

The little loop that sticks out hooks around the offset-bend in the hook and doees 2 very important things:
-  It pegs the weight to the hook!
-  It keeps the head of your bait from sliding down the hook!

Once you try them, you'll never use anything else!!!!  Plus,..for tungsten weights, they are quite reasonaly priced! ;)

ps: The parasite clips do kinda the same thing without a weight,..they keep senkos & flukes etc from sliding down the hook.  The clips can be used with a regular bullet weight also,..but then you will have to additionally peg the weight normally! 8)
If you're a fisherman, ya gotta fish!
