The bac rac mods
« on: February 24, 2009, 01:36:46 PM »
I have been wanting to come up with something to hold my setups out of the way when in another guy's boat.  I was planning to make something and did a search and found the bac rac.

I bought one and it came this week.  It was designed to hold the rods just above the reels but mine are all butt heavy and it wasn't working.  I contacted the mfg and asked what I was doing wrong.  Will said nothing.

So I decided to take the foam off and make them fit the handles instead of the blanks.  I used my Dremel and widened 2 on each side to fit the handles.  I sent pics to the mfg and got a response.  They are now going to make both sides 1 1/8" wide at all slots to accomodate rod handles.  They are going to have a good product for the back of the boat.

Nice job,
all I need to find is that little strap with the hook and loop, I just want to add another strap down on top of my other rod locker.

That's pretty cool!  If I understand correctly, it's a portable rack, and if so, how does it attach to the boat?

Joe,
Would this do the trick?

The bottom is bent at a 90° angle so all I have to do is raise the lid, set them down, and close the lid.  It has holes for screws but I did not buy this for my boat.  It is what I will use when I am in the back of another guy's boat.  It fits on the back box lid where the batteries, etc. go.
