What about these jigs and spinners for Bass?
« on: October 15, 2009, 02:12:27 PM »

We all know about jigs with trailers, rubber, silicone, and bucktail for bass, but what about jigs with marabou?

I made these jigs and spinners for salmon but after I made them, I started wondering if perhaps bass might find them worth striking.

The beads on the orange spinner are the same, but they glow pearly blue when light shines through them.
The bell one has a metal body inside it and the one with the green bead has what I call a snowman body.

I have had success with pink bubble gum worms.  I know salmon hit pink so I'm going to give these a shot against some smallies too.

Still have some more to learn. I know the yellow one is ugly (it was my first one tied) but I hope that it is something the fish, either salmon or bass will find enticing enough to bite on.

Let me know what you think or if you've tried marabou jigs for bass. It couldn't possibly be something new.

Planned tactics are regular jigging or with a float.

Thanks!

Don't see why they won't catch bass.

Come to think of it....that's what they use for the Float n fly technique.
Magic lures don't exist.

Yep we catch a lot of bass around here on the smaller "hair" jigs.   My Dad uses them a lot!

Those look fine IB! You know smallies will hit pink, and other bright colors, so don't be concerned with that. I've been wanting to try the float n' fly rig here in the winter months myself.

YEARS ago I use to tie bear hair jigs for my personal use for fishing the colder water down here. Caught a good many spotted bass on them too. The bear hair would flow just a little bit better in the water than the deer hair, which is what I really liked about the bear hair.

One of my all time fav maribou jigs for panfish is the old "Stump Jumper"(much like a Blakemore road runner with the spinner). It was solid black and it had a horse head style head on it with a little willowleaf spinner on the chin. Reeling it slowly across the bottom was my fav. way to fish them. Caught a bunch of fish that way, including some bass.

Buzz,

Bear hair. I am going to visit a local fly shop and see if they have some.

Thanks, guys. I can't wait to try them on the bass. I'll be making a few more tonight and I might try to make my first bucktail hair jigs too.
