I guess I should saw assemble, since I dont make the parts.

I use to! I use to tie some hair jigs for myself. (Bear hair darterhead style hairjigs) I have three or one left and may have to make some more, sometime or another. The color bear hair that I like(d) seems to be hard to find nowdays(I'm out).

(natural)Blackish brown-redish hue...hard to explain in type, hehe.

I've made:

Poppers
Propeller Baits
Inline Spinners
Make Shift Spinnerbaits (shaped a wire to form and attached a basic jig, hee hee)

And now I'm trying to learn to make steelhead and salmon jigs from Marabou.

My avatar is a pic of a bait I call a popper-prop. Hand carved from bass wood and painted with a standard paint brush. It's never seen the water because my little girl took it from me.? ;D

Hi,
I make my own jigs. Pretty simple stuff.
I would like to learn how to make hair jigs, and maribou jigs in the larger sizes.
I've been looking for 1/4 and 3/8 maribou jigs but can't seem to find any.
I did just receive the Barlow's Tackle catalog so I may try some other lures as well.

Derek,

You might have better luck looking at places that sell steelhead and salmon jigs. Here are two places I know of:

www.firstcastjigs.com

www.anglersadvantagetackle.com

Good luck!

Crankbait use to make own crankbaits till a friend made them better then I do, and he does not fish so someone has to fish them.

I tie crappie jigs -- trout flies nymphs, marbou jigs, woolly worms, and fly I call army worm.

Spinnerbaits not as much as I use too.

Time has become a factor I would rather be fishing, on the water and out doors enjoying life.
Crankbait age has him on the other side of the hill, down hill, he is not going up hill any more.

Man, uphill ain't the half of it...Ahhh, a buddy of mine says, what's the best part of the "golden years?"......They don't last that long!

Making lures. My brother and I, back around '52, I kid you not, started making poppers from wine bottle corks. Had tons of little bass on the lakes of Long Island, NY...Also had a boy that liked my sister, he had a row boat, what else could we do, no boat, no sister...had to test our plugs..

Been making all sorts of lures, jigs, plugs and rigs of every shape, color and use. No longer sell my sister, she just don't get it!

My hottest lure on calico bass is a triple rigged bucktail..actually mayhem on all swimming creatures. Bottom jig 1/2 oz next up 1/4 and last up 1/8, various colors. Can't wait to try it out on largemouth bass....Any views on this? It's been great on any other species I've fished for..we'll wait and see. Have any of you used multiple rigs for bass, crappie etc.?

Will make a bunch for fresh water and fish them come February on my return from Mexico. Any suggestions regarding color, size, style of jig etc would be greatly appreciated and may benefit us all down the road...

later? ? ? Capt. George

Pour my own plastics and make some of my own molds (copies and prototypes)

cusomize old soft plastics (see latest post for pics)

tie hair jigs, popper trailers, rubber skirted jigs and spinnerbaits

make in-lines

paint some of my older crankbaits and topwaters

Love catching fish on what I create from scratch!

Durham's plaster (called water putty for some dumb reason) is the best for the least shrinkage and finer detail; plaster of P is good for most baits and is much cheaper (20# for 7 bucks at Home Depot). Here are some copies that are easy to mold and pour.

originals:

Aluminum 2 part molds are only for baits that must have rounded surfaces on all sides and for gloss coats. (I brush the plaster mold cavities with some Fish Formula oil for a glassy surface.)

I might have to try that Senkosam.  Looks cool.  I guess I can melt down old torn up worms and just mold them.  Have you ever tried bondo to make a mold.
